The Guild is open to anyone who has an interest in woodworking at any skill level. Most members live in St. Tammany Parish but several members live in surrounding parishes and the New Orleans metropolitan area. Meetings are the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm and are usually held at the St. Joseph Abbey woodshop or in one of our members shops. Dues are $25 per year.
A typical meeting will include:
The Guild has made trips to facilities of interest in the field of woodworking. Local mill shops, custom woodworking shops, and even a lumber sawmill in Mississippi have been visited in the past year.
Community service is also a big part of the Guild as it is with most woodworking clubs. Typical projects have included working with kids at the Boys and Girls Club to build blue bird houses and rebuilding the Light Keepers Cottage at the Lake Pontchartrain Maritime Museum.
No matter what your level of experience is in the field of woodworking or where your interests lie, e.g. turning, flatwork, or carving, the Guild is here for your enjoyment and fellowship. No matter how many tools you own, whether you have a shop or not, come see what the Guild is all about.
A typical meeting will include:
- Guild general business regarding activities and upcoming events or issues.
- “Show 'n Tell” where members display projects they have completed and describe the challenges and methods in making and finishing the piece.
- “Woodworking Question and Answer Session” where members bring up questions on problems they are experiencing and members help with solutions.
- “Demonstrations” where members show techniques, steps, and tools to accomplish a particular woodworking objective.
